A number of accessibility improvements will be made in association with the new development site. For example, there will be new pedestrian and cycle way links between the new site and the existing campus and a new permissive path to the east linking the development to Thistleberry and the Westlands.
Accessibility on Campus
In addition, as part of the planning permission for the new development site, Keele University Science and Business Park Limited (KUSBPL) is entering into various legal agreements.
A Section 278 agreement with Staffordshire County Council has been completed with KUSBPL funding the implementation of a public safety improvement scheme. This will provide 2 new Toucan Crossings and Vehicle Speed Activated Signs on the A525 on either side of the roundabout at the entrance to the University and a traffic management scheme at Gallowstree Lane and Sneyd Avenue. It is anticipated that these works will be completed by March 2008. These toucan crossings, together with one to be provided between the 2 roundabouts at the University entrance, will improve arrangements for pedestrians and cyclists. The toucan crossings will add to the current cycle infrastructure shown on the attached plan.
A separate Section 278 agreement is currently being prepared for the improvement of the Keele Road/Gallowstree Lane roundabout.
KUSBPL has entered into a separate Section 106 agreement to make a contribution of £200,000 to improve bus services between the University and neighbouring towns and villages. This contribution will be paid prior to the occupation of buildings on the new development site.
